Perry is the daughter of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played her role. She did not consider a career in acting until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were afraid of the negative consequences stress can be a cause of. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, Perry had the role of a political thriller Scandal with her father. The same year the actress was selected to play a young character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger version of her mother's. The actress was chosen for the role despite having a close family connection to the character.
